Analysis of the daily mails and guardians online websites

1. Both do follow the codes and conventions of their print outs as the daily mail is a tabloid newspaper and often talks about celebrities and more softer news and this is the same with the online version as pictured to the top left as they are talking about celeb and more softer stories as well. These offer a variety of news articles that many different people with different views whether left wing or right wing

The guardian and the online versions both talk about politics and hard news as brexit has been the main topic of discussion and as you can see the online version is talking about brexit news to this day.

2. The news values are clear on the online versions as well as the printed copy as both sources (the mail online and the guardian online) have their main headlines and news at the top of the page where people will be able to see the story clearly. you are also able to click on the news to be able to see the news in full allowing the reader to gain lots of information on one specific headline and this is useful as it saves a lot of paper and you get to see the same if not more information than the printed out copies on both of the online versions. obviously there are more news articles on one page especially on the mail online so it it easier news readers to see and access news articles on the web and the hold more information about the specific news

3. The readership of the online versions would be much higher than on printouts as the online version is more economically friendly which is a big topic of debate in our world today and more trees are saved because more and more people are reading the newspaper in online form which is the future. many have access to internet from there homes so it would be the thing that most people would do is to read it online and why not because it is easier quicker and cheaper and more environmentally freindly and this increase in online users shows this.

4. Their is evidence to back that up as according to newsworks just under 900,000 people read the guardian in print form and just under 1,200,000 read the guardian online showing that more people use the online version of the guardian.

As for the daily mail more people tend to read the print out than the online version according to newsnow with more than 3,000,000 reading the print out meaning that their are just under 2,000,000 more people who read the print out version than the online version.

5. I would definitely say that the mail online invests more capital (opening money) into their website as it is filled with news and has lots of colour and articles to go along side that and this will need a lot of money to be able to do this wheres the guardian does not have as many news articles on their webpage.

6. advertising is the main way that online newspapers make money generating profits so that the brands can expand in the future, these can vary from a wide range of ads. some newspapers also have subscriptions where people have to subscribe by paying often monthly so that they can access news articles. the mail online and the guardian do not have these yet however the guardian often has a appeal tab at the bottom of the page where people can donate money towards the website, this allows people the option of paying however they do not have to as the guardian is a left wing newspaper which is often referred  to as socialism and the guardian supports socialist views by not making people pay for news articles.

7. the use of ads that could potentially be an interest of the reader makes sure that reader loyalty continues to increase for the mail and guardian online platforms and they make money from advertising so they are using ads to make profits and to keep the reader interested. the guardian uses all range of interactive elements as they have multiple links on each section eg. sport. politics and they also have the weather and even crosswords which will keep the reader entertained and to make sure that reader loyalty keeps on a high for the guardian webpage.
